Tattoo Aftercare FAQ

When do I remove the bandage?

  1. When your tattoo is completed it will receive a bandage.
  2. Please keep the bandage on for a minimum of 4-6 hours. If you received your tattoo late in the evening it is acceptable to keep the bandage on until you wake in the morning.
  3. When you remove the bandage wash it thoroughly and gently with warm soapy water. Then pat it dry.
  4. DO NOT REBANDAGE! You must let the tattoo breathe so that it can heal quickly and retain all of its color.

How do I take care of my tattoo?

  1. We recommend that you use a plain hand lotion 3-5 times a day Be sparing and rub the lotion in until it disappears. This helps to relieve the dryness and itchiness that follows when the tattoo scabs over.
  2. DO NOT pick the scabs off before they are ready to fall away. This will cause loss of color brilliance and possibly complete removal of tattoo pigment from the skin.
  3. Until your tattoo is completely healed you must refrain from exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight and tanning beds. Swimming in pools, lakes, rivers, the ocean, as well as using jacuzzis, hot tubs, bathtubs, and saunas is discouraged. Regular showers are fine just keep them brief and avoid having the tattoo under the direct spray.

What should I expect?

  1. Your tattoo will be tender to the touch for the next 4-7 days and will take about 2 weeks to fully heal. (Some people heal in a week others can take up to 3 weeks.)
  2. Scabbing typically forms within 2- 3 days and completely flakes away in another 4- 7 days.
  3. After the scabs are gone your tattoo will appear very shiny. This is because your skin cells are still regenerating. The tattoo is not fully healed until your skin takes on its natural patina.
